With the fourth of July weekend at hand, I felt
it appropriate to head out to the Mojave Desert
and test drive a dune buggy that I have heard so
much about - specifically the Joyner 1100cc sand
rail.
First things first, I love riding motorcycles in
the desert and not as keen to ride on four
wheels, however I thought I would give this a
try as it looks like a lot of fun as well as the
opportunity to put my girlfriend in the
passenger seat to see if I can make her nervous.
The buggy is geared pretty low, heading out on a
dirt road to the trails I quickly accelerated
towards 65 MPH which is hard to describe the
excitement as you are bouncing over the sand
dunes.
I had a blast driving this thing all week long,
my only complaint was that the weather was
brutal here in California, it must have been
about 100 degrees F which is hot enough to make
me sweat a few buckets of water.
Back to the dune buggy, the Joyner is a real
treat to drive, I love the compact design that
allows the unit to easily be driven on the
motorcycle - quad trails while having enough
room for two decent sized adults in a nice
cockpit. I even had enough room to put a
small cooler on the front rack for a 12 pack of
Corona's.
For those thinking of buying a dune buggy, I
would highly recommend that if nothing else, you
go test drive the Joyner before making any
purchases.
